PlantCare Field Monitoring

Smartphone App

In combination with PlantCare’s wireless soil moisture sensors, the Field Monitoring system is used for the wireless recording of soil moisture levels and soil temperature in scientific and agricultural applications as well as garden and landscaping construction. The data are stored on a cloud server and can be downloaded to laptops or Smartphones.

Connection to the cloud

Public low power network:
In this case, so-called gateways - access points to the Internet - are already installed nationwide by a telephone provider. These antennas are usually mounted on the existing mobile phone antenna masts, which are naturally placed in elevated positions. Such a nationwide LP network is e.g. already available in Switzerland, Holland and South Korea.

Private low power network:
In order to be able to use this technology even in countries without a public LPN, one can buy a private gateway and use this e.g. in a building under the gable. This considerably increases the range. Using a network cable, it must then be connected to a router - which is virtually always available for access to the Internet .

Measuring method

PlantCare’s worldwide patented sensor technology is based on the microthermic measurement of soil moisture. A specially developed felt material in moisture balance with the soil acts as the interface between the surrounding soil and the sensor. To measure the moisture level, the sensor is briefly heated and the cooling-down time, which varies depending on soil moisture, is determined. The sensor's cooling-down time thus provides a reliable statement of the soil's moisture content.
